The Biotechnology Institute from Facultad de Ciencias Biologicas (IB / FCB-UANL) was created on December 5TH, 2003 and began academic and scientific work on March 2004. Historically, the IB / FCB-UANL was born as a result of gradual growth and constant academic groups of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, especially the Laboratory of Industrial and Soil Microbiology, which began activities in 1976 with three professors and a technician in a built area of just over 50 m. Twelve years later (1988), the Industrial and Soil Microbiology laboratory was moved to a new building (Unit C), transforming into a three Research and Teaching Units, cubicles, support units and administrative offices.
Six professors and three academic technicians worked in this space. Thanks to this academic and scientific growth and maturity, the Industrial Microbiology and Soil group formed the fundation of the Biotechnology Institute
