Professors at the Biotechnology Institute are certified by the Teacher Improvement Program (PRODEP) of the Secretaria de Educacion Publica (SEP) in three Academic institutes , sharing Lines of Knowledge Generation and Application (LGAC) and a set of  academic goals

The Academic Staff of Biotechnology UANL-CA-111

Consolidated by

The Academic Staff of Biotechnology with the code UANL-CA-111, is consolidated by eleven professors with Doctor’s degree in sciences, of which 7 (72.72%) belong to the Investigators National System and the 100% have the PROMEP profile acknowledgement. Some of the activities of the academic staff of Biotechnology are education and research in pregrad and postgrad, also the services of spread and educate updating and training extracurricular courses. As a consequence of their teamwork, the Academic Staff of Biotechnology forms the main part of the Doctor’s degree in sciences, especially in Biotechnology which is inside of the National Register of Postgrad (CONACYT), it takes part of a web of academic staff recognized by the CONACYT, too. The academic staff of Biotechnology has the goal of generating knowledge of the basic and applied science in the Biotechnology area as well as research development in strategic areas inside of Lines of Generation and Application of Knowledge: Agricultural, Industrial, Environmental, Plant and Animal Biotechnology, through projects and lines of specific research.

Lines of Research

  • Isolation, identification and characterization of microorganisms to develop processes of biologic control of pests in agricultural, forestal and public health area; emphasizing Bacillus thuringiensis bacteria and Isaria fumosorosea, Beauveria bassiana Hirsutella citriformis fungi.

  • Development of processes and products to use agricultural waste.

  • Structural and functional genomics of Bacillus thuringiensis and other entomopathogenic microorganisms or industrial area

  • Development of Methods to molecular detection of transgenic organisms and health status of agricultural origin.

  • Development and evaluation of formulated bioinsecticides of Bacillus thuringiensis and other entomopathogenic microorganisms

  • Development, optimization and scaling of bioprocesses to produce bioinsecticides through Bacillus thuringiensis and entomopathogenic fungi.

  • Characterization and development of advanced materials applications based on biopolymers with potential application in food and pharmaceutic industry..

  • Usage of microorganisms (mainly filamentous fungi) and its enzymes in industrial processes through renewable resources.

  • Getting subproducts (polymers, antioxidants, antimicrobials) with high potential value to develop functional ingredients with applications in food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic area through waste from industry.

  • Biochemical isolation and characterization of proteins.

  • Getting microbiologic products really important to human and animal health.

  • Identification and production of microbiologic compounds with antitumor activity

  • Development of diagnostic system to infectious diseases.

  • Analysis of compounds in plants that allow development of pathogenic microorganisms.

  • Development of processes to operational improvement of reactors for waste water treatment, oil soluble systems and cooling towers..

  • Generation of processes of microbial bioremediation.

  • Microbial enzymes in degradation of persistent organic compounds.

  • Usage of bioadsorbent material in contaminant rakes up.

  • Technologies to produce renewable fuels.

The Academic Staff of Molecular Biotechnology and Bioprocesses

In Consolidation

It focuses in microorganisms’ bioengineering through cloning and expression of genes to produce recombinant proteins and other primary and secondary metabolites. Also it focuses in the molecular study, structural and functional genomics of biologic diversity in order to proteins search or other metabolites with biological activity feasible to biomedical, industrial or agricultural application; to develop techniques for genetic characterization of organisms, isolation, bio-chemical characterization and proteins’ engineering.

The Academic Staff also works on the design and optimization of bioprocesses to produce recombinant proteins in modified organisms genetically, emphasizing in the usage of methylotrophic yeasts as host organism.

Lines of Research
